GREAT LAKES YOUTH CHOIR

Celebrating the bridge-building joy of music!

T
he Little Traverse Youth Choir is an auditioned choir for youth aged 13-20 who love to sing and develop friendships throughout northern Michigan and around the world. The 2019-20 year will begin Thursday, September 12!

The Great Lakes Youth Choir, formerly the Little Traverse Youth Choir, is the host choir for Voices Without Borders' Children of the World in Harmony Festivals and has toured internationally to Ireland (Dublin Choral Festival) and Scotland (American Celebration of Music in Scotland) in 2018, French-speaking Canada and New York in 2013, and has been honored to perform with the Northern Michigan Chorale, the Little Traverse Choral Society, the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and Chorus and Broadway singers, Franc D'Ambrosio and Matthew Morrison. The choir is thrilled to accept an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall in NYC in June, 2020! 

Rehearsals are held on Thursdays from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Petoskey, MI. We are very grateful to Cross of Christ for providing a rehearsal location for the Great Lakes Youth Choir.

The Great Lakes Youth Choir is under the direction of Mr. Kevin Wells. Mr. Wells is a graduate of Michigan State University with a BA in Music Education. He also holds a MA in Education from Marygrove College. Mr. Wells has been teaching for 20 plus years. His tenure has included teaching K-5 elementary music, 6-12 band 6-12 choir. Mr. Wells currently teaches grades 5-12 music, choir and performing arts at the Cheboygan Area School District. He is also involved in putting on a yearly musical with the high school students of Cheboygan.

Mr. Wells is a past president of the Northland Players Community Theater Association and has participated in many community theater productions as actor, singer, director and percussionist. Currently, he directs (and sings tenor) in the organization's "Northand Noteables" singing group, a 14 member vocal ensemble that focuses on performing creative arrangements of Christmas music during the "In the Spirit of Christmas Dinner" held at Audie's restaurant in Mackinaw City each year. The group also performs at various other Nothern Michigan locations throughout the months of November and December.


Mr. Wells is a member of the Michigan School Vocal Music Association and the Vocal Care Network. He is very excited to direct the Great Lakes Youth Choir and looks forward to the choir's upcoming season and traveling to Carnegie Hall in June, 2020!
