What an amazing Children of the World in Harmony Festival! A very special

The mission of Voices Without Borders, Inc. (VWB) is to promote, support and sponsor choral music and dance performances and other performing arts activities for young people in our schools and community.  One of the ways VWB meets the challenge of its mission is to produce the annual Children of the World in Harmony International Youth Choir and Dance Festival.

In July, 2011, VWB will present the work of several youth choirs and dance ensembles from around the world in the 2011 Children of the World in Harmony Youth Choir and Dance Festival.  2011 FESTIVAL SCHEDULE  Groups invited to participate include:


Niños y Jóvenes Cantores de la Escuela Nacional de Música has performed at national and international competitions and festivals in Mexico, Canada, France, Cuba and the United States. They were awarded special recognition in 2001 by the Union Mexicana de Cronistas de Musica y Teatro.The choir has also performed in previous Children of the World in Harmony Festivals in Mexico. Iowa Youth Chorale from central Iowa established its international reputation in 1992 by winning 1st place in the Children’s Division of the prestigious Kathaumixw International Choral Festival in British Columbia.  Tours include the Niagara International Choir Festival, Llangollen International Eisteddfod (Wales), and the Loto-Quebec Choral Festival in Laval, Quebec. The Chorknaben Boy Choir was formed in 1965 and now has about 140 singers. Fifty-nine of them, ages 10-21, will perform for the 2011 Children of the World in Harmony Festival in Michigan. The singers all come from the area around Uetersen, which is a small town near Hamburg in the north of Germany. The choir has a very wide-ranging repertoire for the festival. They have prepared a program of European choral music from Renaissance to Contemporary and Spirituals with compositions by Schultz, Bach, Mendelssohn, Gunod, Britten, Praulins, Miskinis and others. The choir has toured extensively in Germany and internationally. The choir has been very successful presenting concerts, appearing on teleision and radio and taking part in prestigious national and international competitions.  Germany Full Schedule


ZIRKA Dance Ens

emble (Ukrainian Dancers) from Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada was established to preserve and promote the rich Ukrainian heritage of their region.  In 1991, Zirka was invited to tour of Ukraine where they presented performances and workshops throughout the country.  Zirka has performed at Walt Disney’s Epcot Center.   www.zirka.org  Zirka Full Schedule

roeop Symbolica (flag waving dance company) from Genk, Belgium was founded in 1969. Flag-waving is said to have originated during the Crusades.   In 2009, Symbolica develop ed their new show "Rhythm & Flags" which portrays the group’s new feeling of strength and dynamism which presents the typical Flemish folk art of flag dancing in a new way.   www.symbolica.be  Symbolica Full Schedule



Native American Dancers will perform a variety of some of North America’s earliest art forms including hoop dancing, fancy dancing, jingle dancing, and other dance forms.  Colorful costumes and drumming mark these beautiful dances.   The dancers will share the heritage of the American Indian with the festival participants and festival audiences.



Little Traverse Youth Choir is a choir of forty young singers from the”Tip of the Mitt” area of Michigan.   The choir was formed in 2010 to participate in that summer’s Children of the World in Harmony Festival.   They have already become an important addition to the cultural scene in north-central Michigan.   www.littletraverseyouthchoir.org This will be the choir’s second Children of the World in Harmony appearance. Dance Attack
from Mancelona, Michigan is a student dance company of Middle and High School students. The company strives to perform and preserve traditional dance styles including the highly energetic Appalachian Clogging, Irish, Cape Breton, French Canadian, and English step-dances, as well as South African GumbootDance Attack Full Schedule



 
Voices Without Borders International Festival Choir
is comprised of approximately seventy-five selected singers from approximately twelve choirs to be selected from around the world.  This choir is a tradition in the Children of the World in Harmony Festivals.  Selections of choir members will be finalized in June 2011.


The
Wattana Wittaya Academy Girls Choir of Bankok, Thailand, will be represented by four girls from the school. Their director, Sathit Sukchongchaipruk, has been involved in Children of the World in Harmony Festivals in the past. W.W.A. was the first boarding school for girls founded in 1874. It was first located at the royal palace of the Third King of the Chakri Dynasty. It's original name was "Kullasatri Wanglang". Thailand Full Schedule
